Functional Dry Needling
Functional dry needling is a special procedure that helps increase functional mobility and will often reduce acute or chronic pain in patients. It works by reducing muscle tension, therefore restoring the normal mobility of the muscles that are treated.
You may benefit from functional dry needling if you have neck, back, shoulder pain or hip pain, plantar fasciitis, headaches, jaw pain or temporomandibular disorder (TMJ), fibromyalgia or osteoarthritis of the joints, among other conditions. Athletes with limited Range of Motion may also benefit from this treatment.
Functional dry needling involves having our specially trained physical therapist insert a disposable filament needle into your skin and muscle tissue. The needles are directed at dysfunctional muscle tissues that often have myofascial trigger points that cause and refer pain throughout the body. When the needle is inserted and the muscle stimulated, it helps to restore appropriate muscle activation and function which will lead to decreased muscle tension and pain.
