Total Knee Replacement

The following are the first steps following (or just before) your surgery. The focus is getting the knee straight, and begin to get some movement without irritating the knee/surgery itself. Consult your Physical Therapist or Physician if there are questions about appropriateness. STOP performing these activities if pain increases.

  • Perform positioning for knee extension 5-10 minutes every hour

  • Perform remaining stretching and strengthening activities 3-4x/day

Hold 15-20 seconds and repeat 4-5 times per session.

Perform 3-4 sessions / day.


Muscle Activation/Strengthening After Knee Replacement

Perform 10-15 reps (if able) 3-4 sessions per day
